February 2023 - Convict Lake Trip
One year after my first attempt at the Horse Head Nebula, I would get another chance at this beautiful object. Using the the Orion Triplet and my newly astro-modified Canon 60D, I captured 2.5 hours of exposure. In the past year I have migrated my astro-image processing from GIMP to PixInsight. The power of PixInsight is amazing.

In the constellation Canes Venatici. ~31 million light-years (1.82e+20 miles) from Earth and 76,900 ly in diameter.

2022 started off with a trip to a dark sky site.
In February 2022, we took a trip to Convict Lake, CA. Here we were treated to dark clear skies at an altitude of 7500. I was able to capture a few hours of exposure using the Orion ED80CF using my Canon 60D. The dark skies and exposure time produced much more detail than the image captured from home.
Horse Head and Flame - February 2022
Below are a few images I have captured in 2022. All these images were captured under Bortle 6 skies in the San Francisco Bay Area. These images were captured using the Orion ED80CF and the Canon 60D. M57 was captured using the Meade 10" SCT at 2500mm focal length using the Canon 60D.
